About Us

The Library Of Africa & The African Diaspora, or LOATAD, is the literary home of Africa and the Diaspora in Ghana.

With a lending library, an archive, an exhibition space, and a residence, LOATAD welcomes visitors from around the world who wish to immerse themselves in our wealth of African and Diaspora literature spanning the early 20th century right up to the present day.

Our two-storey building houses an extensive collection of over 4000 books by writers of African descent from across the continent and the Diaspora, many of which are rare or out-of-print.

Our top floor living space has three bedrooms available for booking for those seeking to explore our collections in more depth.

The library has both indoor and outdoor seating areas, and our kitchen/cafe, The Mbari, named after the legendary Ibadan club of pioneering African writers, artists and musicians, serves small eats and drinks.

We host a range of stimulating events, from author readings and spoken word to film screenings, talks and debates, that are open to all.

Whether you’re interested in learning more about the history of African literature or you’re simply looking for a unique place to stay, come and be among like-minded people and enjoy a few days and nights at a world-class library!
